Hatem Abd Elhamed claims rubbished by Celtic boss Neil Lennon as he reveals where star will play

Neil Lennon insists Hatem Abd Elhamed IS a natural right-back after the Israeli penned a four-year deal at Celtic.

The former Hapoel Beer Sheva defender became the club's fourth summer signing on Tuesday but there was some confusion among fans over where he would play.

The club announced Elhamed as a right-back but the majority of his appearances for Beer Sheva came at the heart of defence.

Lennon, speaking ahead of the Champions League qualifier against Nomme Kalju, remains confident the Israeli international can play both positions with ease.

"These people who say he's not an out and out right-back have probably never seen him play before.

"He started his career as a right-back and at times he's played as a centre-half. When I watched him the last four or five games of last season he played right back.

"He can play both positions very, very comfortably."

Despite the uncertainty, Lennon is adamant he has a good player on his hands as detailed the key qualities he feels Elhamed will bring to his side.

"Experience, pace, athleticism," the Celtic boss added. "Technically, he's a good player. He can also play in a number of positions.

"I like him, he's hungry and I think he's a good footballer and he's got an injection of pace that will add to what we have already."
