Hastings joins NRL Tigers on two-year deal

Jackson Hastings will return to the NRL with Wests Tigers next season with the joint-venture club poised to announce his signature on a two-year deal.

Hastings has not played in the NRL since leaving Manly in ugly circumstances in 2018, after a bitter fallout with teammates and coach Trent Barrett.

The 25-year-old has since lit up the English Super League, including winning the league's Man of Steel award in 2019.

However it's understood the playmaker will head home this summer, after telling Wigan teammates over the weekend this would be his last season there.

It's expected he will act as in on-ball role at lock at the Tigers as a high-profile replacement for Billy Walters and Moses Mbye.

Walters is expected to head to Brisbane to play under father Kevin next year, while Mbye has been given permission to test the market.

The Tigers have also stressed that Hastings' signature will not threaten Luke Brooks position at the club, with the under-fire half contracted until the end of 2023.

Brooks has been clear in recent days he also has no plans on leaving the Tigers, amid questions over whether he will be better served elsewhere.

"I think he (Jackson) is a great player," Brooks said at the Tigers Anzac Day jersey launch on Monday.

"He's playing good footy in England. I think he will add a lot to our side.

"If he does sign with us he will be a great addition to the side."

Fellow Tigers five-eighth Adam Doueihi is also contracted until the end of 2023, and has shown moments of promise in his first season at No.6 this year.

"I think that's great for the club moving forward," captain James Tamou said.

"He's gone really well in the Super League. And coming through the Roosters juniors he's definitely got something there that will be important to this club.

"Having those couple of years of experience in the Super League will be important to him."
