'Hassle free' bank thinkmoney crashes - leaving customers without cash on payday

Customers of thinkmoney have spent Friday morning unable to pay for goods, check balances or see if their wages have come in.

"What is going on today? Husband's wages have still not credited to our account and he has been paid," Hazel asked on Twitter .

She's not alone either.

Sarah asked: "Any idea when I can access my wages?"

The bank replied: "We are working hard to get this resolved asap & as soon as the funds are available we will text you as normal.

"I am sorry I can’t be any more specific at this time however we are aware this is urgent for you. Thanks you for your continued patience."

The bank, which pushes a message of "helpful" and "hassle-free" banking in its marketing - has been dealing with customer complaints since the early hours of Friday morning.

It's safe to say people are less than impressed.

"People stuck at petrol stations, at the tills with full trollies, kids with mental health issues being turned down for days out, people lost wages cause they can't get work ... it's disgusting how people are struggling," one customer told Mirror Money.

Others are worried about what will happen if their payments don't go through.

"I've already had a txt advising my credit rating will be affected as they were unable to collect my payment," Carrie tweeted.

"If my credit file gets tarnished because of this I can guarantee a major complaint will be going in once again!!"

As an online bank, customers can't head to a branch to withdraw cash if the systems go down - and while there is a help number, people are struggling to get through.

"50 minutes on hold to be told my money should be available but it's not. Sick to the back teeth of this bank now," Chris wrote on Twitter.

Another wrote: "30-45 minute wait to get a hold of thinkmoney anyone else having a problem. Best mates funeral and my new bank on today of all days mess things up and we are meant to be paying for this service?"

The good news is that customers shouldn't lose out - at least financially - as a result of technical problems.

" From bouncing payments to businesses going bust, if a bank or financial firm makes an error and you lose out, you can and should expect to be put back in the position you would have been had the error not occurred - at the soonest opportunity," Martyn James from complaints resolution service Resolver.co.uk told Mirror Money.

"This is not open for debate, these are the rules."
