Hasler inks new two-year deal NRL at Manly

Des Hasler's coaching future is secure after finally putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal to stay at Manly.

Hasler and the Sea Eagles finally completed almost 12 months of negotiations on Thursday, with the new contract that will keep him there until the end of 2023.

The deal came after a significant spotlight was shone on Hasler this week, who had remained uncontracted beyond the end of this year.

"I am very glad to have the opportunity to continue working with this high calibre group of players we have now and those who will emerge in the near future through our pathways program,'' Hasler said in a statement.

"I am confident of delivering further success to the Manly club. There is a great future ahead for the Sea Eagles."

One of Manly's favourite sons, Hasler took the Sea Eagles to premierships in 2008 and 2011 with seven straight finals appearances.

He returned to the Sea Eagles for 2019 after six years at Canterbury, and took the club to the finals in his first year back.

But the club endured a difficult season last year, and started 2021 with star player Tom Trbojevic injured and a 46-4 flogging from the Sydney Roosters.

Negotiations had stalled over the potential of performance and termination clauses, before both Hasler and Manly reached a breakthrough this week.

"Des is one of the most experienced and best credentialed coaches in the NRL and with an outstanding record of success,'' Manly chief executive Stephen Humphreys said.

"He has earned enormous respect from Sea Eagles players, members and corporate partners alike.

"We are very fortunate to have Des at the Sea Eagles and are confident of, and committed to, adding to the success that has defined Manly for some 75 years."
