Hasbro recalls Nerf Super Soaker water guns sold at Target due to lead risk

Hasbro is recalling two models of Super Soaker water guns (including the Super Soaker XP 20, pictured) sold at Target between March and July 2020. | Hasbro

Hasbro is voluntarily recalling 52,900 Nerf Super Soaker water guns sold at Target and urging consumers to stop using them immediately.

According to the recall notice posted this week on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website, stickers on the toys’ water tank may “contain levels of lead in the ink that exceed the federal lead content ban.”

The water guns were sold between March and July 2020. The two models included in the recall are: Super Soaker XP 20, a green and orange hand-held water blaster, sold for about $7.99, and the XP 30 is an orange and blue water gun that sold for $12.99.

A similar recall notice was posted on Hasbro’s website and consumers can submit a claim for a refund at www.hasbro.com.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the affected product and contact the company for instructions on how to return the product and receive a full refund,” the recall notice said. “Consumers will be asked to unscrew the tank from the blaster and return the tank to the manufacturer using a postage prepaid label, for a full refund.”

Consumers with questions about the recall can call Hasbro at (888) 664-3323 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 to 11 a.m. on Fridays. You can also email SuperSoakerRecall@hasbro.com.
