Hasbro cancels Dungeons & Dragons game from God of War and Star Wars Jedi veteran after seeing early concept

Exodus.

Dungeons & Dragons owner Hasbro has severed its exclusive publishing agreement with God of War 3 and Star Wars Jedi director Stig Asmussen after viewing his new studio Giant Skull's single-player D&D game in its fledgling stages, Bloomberg reports.

IP holder Wizards of the Coast tells reporter Jason Schreier the company ditched the partnership, revealed in a flashy June 2025 press release, earlier this year upon deciding "not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull." Nonetheless, the company will accept new games pitches from Giant Skull in the future and tells Schreier, "We have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship."

In 2025, Asmussen described the unnamed action-adventure game as an opportunity for his developers "to sink our teeth into something that's legendary." Hasbro seemed to agree in its press release, describing Giant Skull – which Asmussen established in 2024, after leaving Respawn once Star Wars: Jedi Survivor launched – as "an elite team, all of whom will be instrumental in shaping this new single-player focused action adventure, utilizing Unreal Engine 5, from the ground-up."

The game was going to be "a definitive moment in both companies' gaming ambitions." Not anymore. At the time it was cut, Hasbro also shut down its would-be G.I. Joe game developer Atomic Arcade and made other changes to Wizards of the Coast staff, Bloomberg says.

In any case, Hasbro is holding fast to its big budget video game ambitions. CEO Chris Cocks told GamesRadar+ earlier this month, "I think we're a games company. I think, increasingly, we're going to become a digital company."

At the moment, the executive is eager for players to play Exodus, the game from ex-BioWare devs he calls "D&D in space," which will be published by Wizards of the Coast.

Hasbro CEO says "you should expect more" crossovers for D&D.
