Has Vikings: Valhalla been cancelled? Where fans can go after season 3

Vikings has had viewers on tenterhooks for the past three seasons with its steamy and gripping storylines.

Hailed as “one of the best shows to ever grace Netflix”, the streaming platform surprised all this week when it seemed to say the spin-off series could soon be saying its final goodbye.

The show has followed the up and down lives of explorer Leif Eriksson, played by Sam Corlett, Harold Sigurdsson, played by Leo Suter, and Leif’s sister Freydis Eriksdotter, played by Frida Gastavsson, but fans may have to soon say goodbye to their favourite characters.

Here is everything we know.

Has Vikings Valhalla been cancelled?

Unfortunately it seems to be that way, yes. Vikings Valhalla will come to an end. The announcement came this week that the final season will be released next year.

Co-creator Jeb Stuart released a statement to confirm the sad news and say he was grateful for all of the time the series has had.

He told Variety: “I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis.

“I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that.

“I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.

“When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.”

Why has it been cancelled?

We aren’t sure but it seems like the powers that be who have been working on the show have jointly decided the third – and now final – season wraps things up for the spin-off quite nicely.

Jeb Stuart continued: “Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”

Where can Vikings fans go next?

Vikings fans are devastated that the series is coming to an end and those wanting their fix of Viking fun could restart the series all over again and then watch the spin-off.

The shows can be watched on Amazon Prime but those wanting a new fix could try Black Sails also on Amazon Prime, Barbarians on Netflix, Frontier on Netflix or Britannia on NOW, which have some similarities.

When does Vikings: Valhalla season 3 air?

There has been no official release date as yet but what we have been told is that it will all come to an end in 2024.
