'Has to' - Gary Lineker sends strong Trent Alexander-Arnold message during Liverpool win

Gary Lineker has once again heaped praise on Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds full-back returned from injury in their Premier League clash against Watford on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold had missed Liverpool’s previous two matches before the international break with a groin injury, but was included in Jurgen Klopp’s line-up at Vicarage Road.

The early moments of the 5-0 win saw Alexander-Arnold play a key role in Liverpool’s attack, earning plenty of praise from onlookers.

One of those was Lineker, who has often been vocal on social media with his praise for the 23-year-old.

This time in Lineker’s tweet, the pundit went on to send a message to England manager Gareth Southgate.

Lineker argued that Alexander-Arnold’s ability means he deserves to be a regular starter for the Three Lions.

“The passing of @TrentAA is just utterly sublime,” wrote Lineker on Twitter.

“Will play a huge part in @England’s progress over the next few years. He’s on another level and has to play.”

Former Liverpool forward Joe Cole was working as a BT Sport pundit for the game, and argued before the game why Alexander-Arnold has what it takes to play in midfield and thrive.

"He’s plays at right-back for Liverpool but he has that freedom to go into midfield when he sees fit," said Cole.

“He’s a natural footballer, he knows what positions to take, he knows what’s around.

“For Liverpool, keep doing what you’re doing. For England, it’s a little bit different, because you’ve got three or four players you think I need to get all these world class players in the team, maybe I play him as a number eight and develop him in there.

“The nuance and asterix in there is he is as effective in there when he has to play with his back to goal consistently? It’s an enigma, he could be the best right-back in the world.

“I’m pretty sure, give him 18 months he’ll be one of the best eights in this country.

“He’s such a great player, he’s only played five games and his stats are on points, he’s back to his very, very best.”
