Has the glorious weather come to an end? Here's the Met Office forecast for the North East

The North East has been enjoying a spell of glorious sunshine over the past few days - but will it last?

Temperatures hit the mid 20s over the weekend and thousands took advantage of the warm weather .

Scores of people hit the coast while a huge crowd flocked to enjoy the Northumberland Plate Festival .

The Met Office says it's not going to be as hot as that this week, however it's not all doom and gloom.

Temperatures will hover around 17C or 18C. It will be breezier and cloudier, with a chance of light showers.

Alex Burkill, meteorologist, said: "This week, it won't be as hot as it has been over the weekend but there's nothing too severe on the horizon.

"Monday will be cloudy in the morning with a chance of rain. During the afternoon, it should be largely dry and you'll see some brightness break out by the end of the day. There will be a high of 17C, though it will be a bit breezy which will make it feel cooler.

"Temperatures will then creep up a little bit, going up to 18C on Tuesday and 19C on Wednesday.

"It will be largely fine with sunny spells but there's a chance of light showers here or there.

"The temperatures are average for the time of year."

Mr Burkill said UV levels would remain moderate or high and advised people to wear sunscreen when it is sunny.
