Has Pochettino just dropped a big hint about the future for one young Tottenham player?

Mauricio Pochettino omitted Juan Foyth's name when speaking about contenders for the right-back slot at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21-year-old centre-back ended last season with a couple of performances in the right-back position before starring in the role at the Copa America for Argentina.

His national boss Lionel Scaloni believes Foyth's future lies at right-back and the young defender has been called up to the latest Argentina squad, along with Spurs team-mate Erik Lamela.

Foyth missed the start of this season after picking up an ankle injury during pre-season, having cut short his honeymoon and holidays after the Copa America to return to challenge for his spot in Pochettino's squad.

The Argentine has been back in full training now for the past two weeks and made the bench for the recent Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester.

However, when speaking about the right-back position on Friday, with neither Serge Aurier nor Kyle Walker-Peters taking a firm grip on the role this season since Kieran Trippier's departure and Moussa Sissoko impressing in the role in Saturday's win against Southampton, Pochettino either forgot, deliberately omitted Foyth's name from those in mind or was simply talking about those he's used so far during this campaign.

"If you go back to my first season, who was my first right-back? [Kyle] Naughton. [Eric] Dier finished [there in the first match] because Naughton was sent off and he scored in the last minute. That season we played, Naughton Dier, Chiricheș, Walker, and maybe another," he said.

"All my seasons were similar to this season. Now it's Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier, Davinson [Sanchez], now in this type of circumstance, it was Moussa finishing there for the last hour of the game but we were working always in a similar circumstance.

"It's not going to change this season. That's why I'm very optimistic and very positive. This is not new for us.

"What is new for the club is seven years ago, we were playing Panathinaikos, Maribor in the Europa League but now, for the fourth season in a row, we are playing Champions League and playing Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid or Manchester City.

"That change a lot. This type of circumstances change a lot for the club but my circumstances, poor circumstances, didn't change from five years ago to today."

It is likely that Pochettino was simply listing those players he has used at right-back so far this season, but some Spurs fans noticed that Foyth's name was not even mentioned in passing and speculated that he will return to centre-back duties during this campaign.
