Has Olympiacos interest in Nottingham Forest ace Joao Carvalho now come to an end?

Nottingham Forest star Joao Carvalho was said to have caught the eye of Olympiacos this summer – but might any interest have now come to an end?

The chances of the Greek giants making a move for Carvalho were said to depend on the future of another player, Kostas Fortounis.

The attacking midfielder’s Olympiacos contract was due to expire next summer, with West Ham United reportedly circling, ready to pounce if a new one was not agreed and the club wished to cash in.

And if they lost Fortounis, the suggestion was Carvalho would be top of the list of possible replacements.

But it could be that particular link has now fallen by the wayside, with the former having today put pen to paper on a new deal for the Athens-based team.

As he signed fresh terms Fortounis thanked Evangelos Marinakis, who owns both the Reds and Olympiacos.

“My gratitude for the club, the world, each of the people in the group and especially our chairman, Evangelos Marinakis, is immense,” Fortounis said.

Striker Hillal Soudani last week made the move from the City Ground to Olympiacos, while Reds duo Claudio Yacob and Yohan Benalouane have been linked with treading the same path.
