Nick Knowles says he has not been replaced on DIY SOS

TV star Nick Knowles has hit back after people wrongly believed he had been replaced on hit BBC One show, DIY SOS.

The presenter was only off for one charity episode shown during Children in Need 2021 and some people thought that was that for his time on the show.

But the 59-year-old presenter has made clear that he will return to the show and explained how he has filmed a new episode in Bristol.

He wrote on twitter on Friday: "Thank you everyone for the support you’re showing me but reporting is entirely inaccurate.

"I have not been replaced on the show Rhod Gilbert stood in for one DIY SOS, .since when I’ve returned to do a build in Bristol with more planned for the new year I’ll let you know if I’m off."

DIY SOS returned to BBC One last Wednesday for an episode filmed in Hull starring comedian Rhod Gilbert.

Gilbert was called in after Knowles had to stand down after his appearance in a Shreddies advert, which fell foul of BBC guidelines.

The BBC described Gilbert as 'guest presenter' and he was with the team in Brandesburton, near Hull, as they embarked on an adventurous build

The start of the programme saw Rhod being picked up at the side of the road- by the DIY SOS team as they headed up to Hull.

Under the BBC's editorial guidelines, actors and artists who appear in its shows are prohibited from appearing in promotional work "in a way which mimics or replicates their on-air roles for the BBC".

Knowles, who has presented the show since its inception in 1999, will return to DIY SOS in 2022 and has already filmed the forthcoming episode at the Southmead Adventure Playground in Bristol.

A joint statement from the BBC and Knowles back in May said: “Both Nick and the BBC have resolved the issue recently reported relating to Nick’s commercial agreements and BBC guidelines.

“With the campaign still running, Nick will step back from the DIY SOS Children In Need special this year but will be back on our screens in 2022.”

In a separate statement, the BBC said: “Nick is an important member of the BBC family and we are pleased that this matter is resolved.
