Despite the fact Brexit has yet to actually happen, there are many predictions about its possible impact. One of the issues under discussion is what effect it will have on relations between Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The leader of the Republic of Ireland’s main opposition party is one of several politicians who believes Brexit could move Ireland closer to reunification.

Micheál Martin, the Fianna Fáil leader, said that the majority vote in favour of remaining in the EU in Northern Ireland (56% voted against Brexit) could be a defining moment for region. “The remain vote may show people the need to rethink current arrangements. I hope it moves us towards majority support for unification, and if it does we should trigger a reunification referendum,” he said.

However, at the moment there is little evidence that this is what the people of Northern Ireland or Ireland want. So, what do you think? Tell us how the referendum result will impact you. Do you believe in a unified Ireland? Do the people of Northern Ireland now see their future more as part of Europe than part of the UK?

We’d like to hear views from people from both Northern Ireland and Ireland. You can share your perspectives in the form below, anonymously if you wish.
