Has George RR Martin revealed the name of the Games Of Thrones prequel?

Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin has appeared to confirmed that the prequel, starring Naomi Watts, will be called The Long Night.

Martin revealed the exciting news on his Twitter page, seemingly giving fans a name to get excited about after months of speculation.

Confirming the news, Martin wrote: “Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film.

“HBO has just announced the first cast member: NAOMI WATTS is coming on board as one of our stars.”

On his blog, Martin added: “I could not be more excited. Welcome to Westeros, Naomi,” before revealing some more details about the prequel.

Kick-Ass and Kingsman writer Jane Goldman is in charge of the script, which is said to be taken from the Age of Heroes tale – although she has warned that it “isn’t the story we think we know”.

Martin explained that casting is taking place in London and that he expects more names to follow in due course.

The author remained tight-lipped on what they would be but hinted it could have something to do with upcoming book Fire and Blood, which is released in November.

It is thought that Watts’ character in The Long Night will be “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”

The final season of HBO hit Game Of Thrones is expected to air in the first half of 2019.
