US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (local time) that a possible operation to seize Iran’s key Kharg Island would be “off the table” if both sides sign an agreement to end the war, which he said could be reached “as early as this weekend.”

The Republican leader's statement came days after he declared in a social media post that "at some point in the not so distant future," the US would take Kharg, which processes 90% of the Islamic Republic's total oil exports.
"Now it would be (off the table) if we signed this agreement, it would be. They weren't so thrilled when they heard that that's what I was put in. I just don't think I like it," he told reporters at the Oval Office on being asked whether the Kharg Island operation was off the table.
