Extortion, cheating and bribery: Haryana vigilance arrests HCS officer, DEO in two different cases

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Vigilance Bureau (HSVB) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer and the district education officer (DEO) of Nuh in two different cases.

The HSVB arrested HCS officer of 2016 batch Wakeel Ahmed and his brother on the charge of extortion, cheating and bribery registered against them.

Ramphal Dhankar, the DEO of Nuh, was arrested in a trap laid by the bureau on the allegations of demanding bribes in lieu of facilitating the purchase order of supply of benches for the schools in the district.

Ahmed currently holds the charge of member secretary, Haryana Vimukt Ghumantu Jati Vikas Board and he is among the four people who have been booked by the vigilance bureau.

The officer and one of his brothers, identified as Fakrudeen, were arrested following evidence of demand and acceptance of Rs 9,60,000 from a woman candidate on the pretext of ensuring her victory in the recently held Nuh Zila Parishad election.

The complainant, a resident of Tauru, has alleged that the HCS officer and his family members demanded Rs 10,00,000 in lieu of helping his daughter-in-law in Nuh Zila Parishad election (ward number 3) and in the process, they had obtained Rs 9,60,000 from the complainant.

The officer was posted as an estate officer in Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran, Panipat at the relevant time.

A case has been registered against the accused persons under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code in the bureau's police station Gurugram.

DEO Dhankar demanded Rs 10 lakh in lieu of ensuring the purchase order for the supply of school desks in favour of the complainant.

These desks were to be supplied in various schools of the district.

The accused officer has already taken Rs 2 lakh bribe.

The complainant, who did not wish to pay the bribe, approached the vigilance bureau. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused in Gurugram.
