PANCHKULA: Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Gian Chand Gupta has ordered a probe into developmental works of the cremation ground in Sector 20, Panchkula on suspicion of irregularities. Gupta directed MC commissioner Dharamveer Singh to constitute a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
The committee will be supervised by the MC Commissioner and will have local area councillor Sushil Garg, councillor Jai Parkash and an MC officer as members. The report is to be submitted within a week, said Gupta.
The directions were issued by Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Friday while inspecting the crematorium operated by Sanatan Dharma Vaikunth Dham Seva Samiti in Sector 20, where he took stock of facilities available. MC officials said that work on the construction of a boundary wall of the creamtorium and laying tiles had been done at a cost of Rs 17 lakh, after which Gupta ordered a probe.
Meanwhile, members of the Sanatan Dharma Vaikunth Dham Seva Samiti raised issues related to crematorium. Samiti president Pradeep Goel said that they only have one cremation van and another one was needed. At this, Gupta announced that he would give Rs 11 lakh from his discretionary fund to the Samiti for an additional van.
