Haryana: Two win laurels in national fencing championship

CHANDIGARH: Two girl trainees from Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula have won bronze medals in the fencing championship held in Chhattisgarh recently.

The winners, Samaira and Nitika, trainees of Tau Devi Lal stadium fencing centre had participated in the 23rd sub-junior national fencing championship held at Raipur in Chhattisgarh from March 26 to 28. They have won bronze medals in the Epee event.

The epee is a thrusting weapon like the foil, but heavier, with a maximum total weight of 775 grams. Pankaj Nain, director general, sports and youth affairs department, Haryana congratulated the coach Komal Chaudhary and the trainees.

The department of sports and youth affairs department, Haryana has been providing free training to interested children of different age groups at the Panchkula-based stadium. Training is being provided for different games and a nursery scheme is also provided by the Haryana government to nurture sports talent in children.
