Haryana: Two members of Kala Rana gang target police vehicle for robbery in Yamunanagar, held

YAMUNANAGAR: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-II of Yamunanagar police arrested two members of Kala Rana gang, after they allegedly targeted a police vehicle incidentally in a robbery attempt in Sadar area on Tuesday.

Yamunanagar police spokesman said the arrested accused have been identified as Simranjit alias Baba of Subhash Nagar and Shubham of Professor Colony, both residents of the city, and they are associated with Kala Rana gang.

The police have recovered two country-made pistols of 9mm and .315 bore caliber, seven live rounds from the possession of accused Simranjit and Shubham besides a bike.

"In jail, accused Simranjit was in contact with Surya Pratap Singh, brother of gangster Kala Rana alias Vijender Pratap Singh. On directions of Surya, Simranjit and Shubham had collected arms at the residence of Kala Rana in Lakshmi Garden Colony in Yamunanagar and the police were investigating the same", said police spokesman.

On the complaint of sub-inspector Mohan Lal, a case has been registered against Simranjit and Shubham under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 341 (wrongful restraint), 398 (attempt to commit robbery) and 401 (belonging to gang of thieves) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25 of the Arms Act at Yamunanagar Sadar police station on Tuesday.

Yamunanagar CIA-II in-charge inspector Rakesh Kumar said that their team received the tip-off that two youths were sitting on the bank of canal in an attempt to commit robbery.

"On the basis of this information, a team was formed. When the CIA-II team reached near the bank of canal, both accused stopped the police vehicle by obstructing its passage with a bike and attempting to commit robbery. The team nabbed both the accused", said inspector Rakesh.

On Monday, the joint teams of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Haryana police special task force (STF) and Yamunanagar police had conducted a raid at residence of gangster Kala Rana and during the raid, six unlicensed pistols of .30 and .32 bore caliber, 90 cartridges of various capacities, 10 gm opium, six mobile chargers and headphones, 16 mobile phones, pen drives, hard disks and other electronic material.

As per the information, Kala Rana's father Joginder Singh was also arrested by Yamunanagar police from their home in Lakshmi Nagar here following raid on Monday, in connection with an attempt to murder case of 2017. Joginder was produced in the court on Tuesday, which sent him on police remand for two days.

The raids by NIA and state police agencies came following registration of two cases by Delhi Police under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in August this year, but later the investigation of these cases were handed over to NIA.
