Haryana: Two held with over 2.9kg opium in Ambala

AMBALA: In the last three days, the crime investigation agencies (CIA) of Ambala police arrested two men with over 2.9kg opium.

CIA-II arrested one Ravinder Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, after recovering 540gm of opium from his possession in Mullana police station area of Ambala in Haryana on Sunday.

The police said that Kumar was produced in the district court on Monday, which granted his eight-day police remand. They had received a tip-off that the accused was smuggling narcotics and accordingly, a check post was laid near Roorkee turn in the Mullana area where he was arrested by the agency.

A case was registered against him under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act at Mullana police station on Sunday.

In another case, CIA-I on Saturday arrested an accused identified as Neeraj of UP's Bareilly district who was residing in Sector 7 of Ambala city, after recovering 2.40kg opium from his possession in the Parao police station area.

Neeraj was sent on four-day police remand by the Ambala court on Saturday.

After receiving a tip-off, the CIA-I laid a check post on Ghasitpur flyover of the national highway (NH)-44 and arrested him with the contraband.

A case under NDPS Act was registered against him at Parao police station.
