Haryana: Two held with 1.21 quintal poppy husk in Kurukshetra

KURUKSHETRA: The anti-narcotic cell (ANC) of Kurukshetra police arrested two persons, after recovering 1.21 quintal poppy husk from their possession in Sadar Pehowa police station area on Saturday.

Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Kumar said that the arrested accused have been identified as a truck driver Palwinder Singh of Ismailabad and Kashmir Singh of Murtajapur, both in the district. He said both the accused were produced in the district court on Sunday, which granted their 5-day police remand.

Naresh said that ANC, Kurukshetra team was present on patrol on Pehowa-Kurukshetra road, when they received the tip-off that Palwinder sell poppy husk in his truck after procuring contraband from Rajasthan and he would be coming to Kurukshetra.

The police said acting on the tip-off, a checking post was laid on the National Highway (NH) 152-D and a suspect truck was stopped for checking.

"Truck driver Palwinder Singh and cleaner Kashmir Singh were caught with 1.21 quintal poppy husk hidden inside their vehicle", said the police.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against both the accused under Section 15 of the NDPS Act at Pehowa Sadar police station on Saturday.
