Haryana: Two facing theft charges beaten in village panchayat, police book seven

YAMUNANAGAR: Two persons facing alleged theft charges were beaten brutally in a panchayat at Yakubpur village in Chhachhrauli area of Yamunanagar district.

Some villagers alleged that both had committed theft of some agriculture implements from the property of farmers in the village.

The incident came to the light as a video of it went viral on social media, in which, it can be seen that two youths are being beaten brutally with a stick in the panchayat.

The police have registered another case of theft against the two persons, who were beaten.

In the first case, Sahil of Yakubpur village said that he does labour work for his livelihood.

"On January 19, at about 9.30pm, I called Gautam of my village and asked him to meet me outside my home. Gautam reached there and we were standing in the cattle field of Mahipal of our village, when Devi Singh, Rinku came there. Both started framing theft charges against us. Devi and Rinku started assaulting us and called our family members at the spot. They alleged that we had gone there with an intention to commit theft and gave us time to reach village panchayat at 10 am on January 20", said Sahil.

Sahil said he along with Gautam and their family members reached the village panchayat and allegations were leveled that they committed the theft of agriculture implements.

"Several people assembled at a place in the village, where we were beaten brutally with sticks by some persons belonging to our village. During the assembly, casteist remarks were also hurled at us", said Sahil.

On Sahil's complaint, a case was registered against Devi Singh, Rinku, Rahul, Ankush, Rakesh, Hariom, and Mukesh, all of Yakubpur village under Section 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 3 (punishment for offences of atrocities) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Chhachhrauli police station on January 23.

In the second case, on the complaint of Mahipal of Yakubpur village, a case was registered against Sahil and Gautam under Section 379 (punishment for theft) of the IPC at Chhachhrauli police station on January 23.

"I was sleeping in a room at my cattle field in the night. I heard a noise and woke up. When I came out I saw that my nephews Birampal alias Rinku and Gurmeet had caught Sahil and Gautam of our village while stealing spare parts of the tractor-trolley. They also stole several other agriculture implements of the farmers of our village in the recent past", said Mahipal.

Chhachhrauli police station house officer said, "Raids are being conducted in the village and all the persons are absconding from there. The cases are being investigated."
