Haryana: Told to repair house, man kills neighbour with hammer in Ambala

AMBALA: A man allegedly bludgeoned a 52-year-old woman to death with a hammer over a trivial matter in Kesri village of the district on Wednesday.

The accused is Krishan of Kesri village. He was nursing a grudge against his neighbour Memo Devi, the victim, since had asked him to repair a portion of his house. Memo Devi was a labourer and used to work in Krishan's house. "My nephew had a narrow escape after chhaja (cantilever) of Krishan's house fell on the street about 15 days ago. My mother had then asked him to repair the chhaja as it could be harmful," said Jasbir, the son of the victim.

"When my mother had gone to dump cow dung in the morning, Krishan confronted her. He attacked her with a hammer on her head two to three times and fled," said Jasbir. He said he took his mother to a private hospital in Mohri village, where she was declared brought dead.

Police booked Krishan under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

Ambala police spokesman sub-inspector Ramesh Kumar said, "So far, no arrest has been made. Investigation is under way."
