Haryana: Three of a family consume poison due to financial crisis in Ambala, one dies

AMBALA: A 65-year-old man died after three members of a family consumed poison due to the financial crisis in Ambala City on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Kumar (65), and the others who consumed poison include his wife Kusum (58), and their son Hitesh (34), all residents of Naya Bans, Ambala City, said the police.

Ambala City police station house officer (SHO) inspector Ram Kumar said that following the consumption of some poisonous substance, all three family members were admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh on Friday evening.

"All were unfit for their statement on Friday night and on Saturday morning, we received the information that Jaswinder expired and his wife Kusum and son Hitesh are reported to be out of danger", said SHO Ram Kumar.

To a query, SHO Ram Kumar said, "We did not receive any complaint. Their family members told the police that they were facing a financial crisis due to which they took this extreme step. The family ran a general and edible oil store on Sabathu Road in Ambala City and all three lived together at their home where they consumed poison."

The SHO said that an investigation officer was deputed for conducting a post-mortem of the deceased Jaswinder and further procedures.
