Haryana: Three held with 4.23 kg opium in Ambala, Kurukshetra

AMBALA/KURUKSHETRA: The Haryana police teams in Ambala range area arrested three persons and recovered 4.23 kg opium from their possessions in two separate cases on Tuesday.

In Kurukshetra, the crime investigation agency (CIA)-I of district police arrested two Bihar residents identified as Rahul Kumar of Dobhi district and Prakash Kumar of Gaya district, after recovering 3.23 kg opium from their possession in Ladwa police station area. Both Rahul and Prakash were produced in the district court in Kurukshetra on Wednesday, which granted their 8-day police remand.

In Ambala, the CIA-II of district police arrested an accused identified as Mahavir Singh of Sambhalkha village in Ambala district, after recovering 1 kg opium from his possession in Saha police station area. Mahavir was produced in the court in Ambala, which granted his 5-day police remand.

Kurukshetra additional superintendent of police (ASP) Karan Goel said that the CIA-I had received the tip-off that Rahul and Prakash of Bihar sell opium and they would be coming towards Ladwa in a Jharkhand numbered car via Indri, Karnal. He said a checking post was laid and suspects were stopped when 3.23 kg of opium was recovered from both accused from near Hanuman Temple on Ladwa-Indri road. He said a case has been registered against both the accused under relevant Sections of NDPS Act at Ladwa police station on Tuesday.

Ambala police said that the CIA-II had received the tip-off that accused Mahavir does smuggling of narcotics and there is a case of the year 2010 against him of smuggling 3kg opium in Gobindgarh police station in Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab. The police said it was informed that Mahavir would be smuggling opium in Saha area, after which, a checking post was laid near the turn of Khudda village. The police said Mahavir was walking and on suspicion, he was stopped for checking when 1 kg of opium was recovered from his possession. The police said Mahavir has stayed in jail for 4 years in a drug smuggling case. The police said Mahavir has six cases of Excise Act and one of assault against him.

Meanwhile, a case was registered against Mahavir at Saha police station on Tuesday.
