Haryana: Ransom demanded from shopkeeper in Yamunanagar, gunshots fired at his shop after police complaint

YAMUNANAGAR: The police have registered a case after a shopkeeper received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from unknown persons in Yamunanagar district on Monday.

As per the information, when the shopkeeper Sumeet Narula of Lakshmi Garden Colony of Yamunanagar did not pay a ransom as per the demand and got a case registered against the accused, two motorcycle-borne miscreants came to his shop at Sasauli road in the Farakpur area and opened multiple fires on it.

The police said when the gunshots were fired, no one was present inside the shop but the bullets hit the entrance door and the two miscreants fled from the spot.

The Yamunanagar police have managed to obtain CCTV footage, two suspects can be seen riding on a motorcycle.

In his complaint related to the ransom demand, Sumeet Narula said that he ran a shop of PVC work on Sasauli road in Yamunanagar.

"On May 22, at about 8.35 pm, I got a call on my phone. The caller told his name as Narender Rana, he threatened me of facing dire consequences while demanding Rs 50 lakh by 12 noon on May 23, if I failed to deliver the same", said Sumeet.

"On May 23, I got the call again at about 1.58 pm. The caller asked me about the demanded money and what have I thought about it, to give money or life. I am mentally under distress due to these phone calls", added Sumeet.

Meanwhile, at about 5 pm on Tuesday, two miscreants opened fire outside Sumeet's shop. At the time of the incident, no one was present there and the accused fled from there.

On Sumeet's complaint, the Yamunanagar police registered a case against an accused Narender Rana at Gandhi Nagar police station on Monday.

In the case of firing, on the complaint of exempted sub-inspector (ESI) Roop Lal, the Yamunanagar police have registered a case against unknown persons at Farakpur police station on Tuesday night.

Following the incident of firing, Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Mohit Handa, DSP headquarters Subhash Chander reached the spot on Sasauli road for inspection and the scene of crime team collected the evidence.

SP Mohit Handa said, "Several teams have been formed and the accused persons would be arrested soon."
