Haryana: Panchkula extortion case 'prime accused' held from Meerut

PANCHKULA: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the extortion case arrested accused Anil Bhalla's son Akash Bhalla from Meerut on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner of police (ACP) Surinder Singh, head of the SIT, said Akash Bhalla was taken in two-day police custody. Inspector Sukhbir Singh, SHO, Sector 5 police station, called Akash the prime accused. "More recoveries might be made during his remand," he said.

On May 26, on the directions of the DCP, Anil Bhalla was arrested on a complaint of Rs 45 lakh fraud against him. A total of seven FIRs of fraud and forgery have been registered against him. Later, hispartner Narender Khillan, son Sahil Bhalla, wife Anjali were arrested after Rs 5 crore, gold items valuing above Rs 1 crore, illegal pistols, premium vehicles, ammunition and opium were recovered from his house in Sector 2. The accused used to commit fraud by giving loans to the needy and misused their vehicles, identities and documents for personal use, police have alleged.

Meanwhile, ASI Gurmej Singh, who was posted as the Sector 2 police post in-charge, was sacked for his alleged involvement in the case. He is still absconding.
