YAMUNANAGAR: The police have registered a case against two miscreants, allegedly for opening fire in Bal Chhappar village in Yamunanagar district at about 11 on pm Monday.
Lal Das of Bal Chhappar village lodged a complaint with the Yamunanagar police, after which, a case was registered against two miscreants under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at Chhappar police station on Tuesday.
Lal told police that his wife Anurandha is contesting village panchayat election for the post of Sarpanch and two miscreants threatened them to kill if they contested the same.
"On Monday, at about 11 pm, my wife and I were standing inside the entrance gate in our home. The gate was locked. Two youths came on a motorcycle and threatened us that if we contested the Sarpanch election, they would shoot us down. Suddenly, the youth sitting pillion with intent to kill me and my wife opened fire. We had a narrow escape as the bullets hit on our iron made entrance gate. The miscreants fired five bullets, which hit the gate. They abused us in Punjabi language", said Lal.
Chhappar police station house officer (SHO) Jasbir Singh said that a case has been registered and the matter is being investigated. He said patrolling and vigil has been increased in the village after this incident.
Haryana panchayat elections are scheduled to take place in Yamunanagar district on November 2, 2022.
