Haryana: Nuts, bolts of NH bridge over canal found missing in Yamunanagar, case registered, repair work starts

YAMUNANAGAR: The police have registered a case of theft after 4,500 number of steel nuts and bolts of a steel girder bridge on the National Highway (NH) 344 (Barwala-Yamunanagar-Roorkee) over Augmentation Canal were found missing in Yamunanagar district on Monday.

NH-344 is one of the busiest highways, which connects Haryana with Uttar Pradesh and the steel girder bridge is built on Augmentation Canal of Yamuna near Karera Khurd village, 400 meters towards Khandwa village.

On the complaint of Pankaj, project manager of Sadbhav Engineering Limited Company, a case was registered against an unknown person under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Yamunanagar Sadar police station on Monday.

In his complaint, Pankaj stated that, “Our company is doing repair work of Kalanaur to Barwala (NH-344) road. The company had constructed a bridge above Yamuna canal near Karera Khurd village on NH-344, 400 meters towards Khandwa village. We received the information on Monday that 4,500 number of nuts and bolts and a steel cross girder have been stolen from the bridge.”

As per the information, the villagers (cattle grazers) noticed the missing bolts from underneath the bridge on the canal and reported the issue.

Yamunanagar police reported the company.

The teams of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Yamunanagar police station house officer (SHO) visited the spot on Monday and Tuesday, to ascertain the incident and see if any damage has been done to the bridge.

Pankaj said, "Repair work of fixing nuts and bolts of bridge at canal kilometer 78.850 has been started from Tuesday, under the supervision of Sanjeet Goyat, site engineer of our company. The work is expected to be completed in three to four days. Now, we are fixing the nuts and bolts with welding, so that nobody is able to open them in future."

Yamunanagar Sadar SHO inspector Dinesh Kumar said, "A case has been registered to investigate the matter."
