Haryana: No panchayati raj institutions polls before August 22, says CM Manohar Lal Khattar

CHANDIGARH: Putting speculations to an end, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ruled out a possibility of elections to panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) before August 22 or till all legal hurdles are cleared Khattar said this while interacting with media in Gurgaon and New Delhi. Meanwhile, the department of developments and panchayats will continue with delimitation and reservation of wards for the elections.

Last week, the department had forwarded a file related to PRI polls to CMO for the consideration of CM Khattar.

The CM is learnt to have spoken to the deputy CM, Dushyant Chautala, who holds the charge of development and panchayats .

Similar issues are pending in the Punjab and Haryana high court and these are likely to come up for hearing by second week.

On the other hand, Khattar is also taking inputs from intelligence agencies and the party’s rank and files about conducting the polls to PRIs and local bodies as well because elections have been due in 45 civic bodies since June.

In related development, the agitating farmers and their leaderships have already announced to oppose BJPJJP candidates in civic body and panchayat elections.

While the Congress has started preparations, leaders have asked party high command to allow participation in panchayat and civic bodies polls on party symbols for the first time.
