Haryana: Ministry of environment, forest and climate change panel's team to visit solid waste management site today

PANCHKULA: A four-member sub-committee of the economic advisory council (EAC) of the the ministry of environment, forest and climate change will visit the proposed integrated municipal solid waste management facility at Jhuriwala from 9am to 3pm on Saturday to verify objections on conversion of forestland into waste management and landfill site.

The team comprises EAC chairman N P Shukla, members B C Nigam and V Suresh and additional director and member secretary Dr Ashish Kumar.

The proposal to convert forestland into waste landfill site for terms of references was considered by the EAC in its meetings held on September 29, 2021, and on October 27-28, 2021. The EAC had expressed its concern on the conversion.

In the meantime, the committee is also in receipt of a representation of October 24, 2021 highlighting issues related to the proposed site. The EAC also noted that one litigation has been filed against the project. The EAC had then decided to conduct a site visit.
