AMBALA: The police have registered a case of fraud and criminal breach of trust, after a man has been duped of Rs 21.40 lakh on the pretext of providing plots in a non-existing colony in Ambala district.
On the complaint of Balbir Singh of Defence Colony, Ambala Cantonment, a case has been registered against an accused identified as Abhishek Malik of Defence Enclave, Boh, Ambala Cantonment, under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mahesh Nagar police station on Tuesday.
In his complaint, Balbir said Abhishek approached him and told that he is carving out a colony for which he had already purchased land from the villagers and has taken relevant permissions from the government.
"Abhishek induced me to purchase plots in the said colony by affirming that the colony is approved by the government. I purchased 5 plots measuring 840 sq yards in the proposed colony vide an agreement. A total sum of Rs 21,40,000 was paid to Abhishek on different occasions between April 20, 2021 to September 29, 2021", said Balbir.
The complainant said when he approached Abhishek to execute a sale deed of the said plots in his favour, the accused started avoiding him and stopped responding to phone calls.
"Left with no option, I approached the land owners who had sold land to Abhishek but I was stunned to know that the land deal was cancelled as all the cheques issued by Abhishek to land owners had bounced. I somehow contacted Abhishek in October 2021, and requested return of the money given to him but he started giving vague excuses", said Balbir.
The Ambala police said they have started the investigation in this case.
