Haryana kanwaria & 3 locals swept away in Ganga

DEHRADUN: A 25-year-old kanwaria, Sonu alias Gaurav from Suncity of Haryana's Rewari district, was feared to have drowned in the Ganga in Haridwar on Saturday after he was swept away while taking a dip.

In a separate incident the same day, three friends, all local residents, who had gone to Neem beach in Rishikesh to celebrate the birthday of one of them, were also swept away. Police divers, with the help of SDRF teams, tried to look for them but could find no trace of them.

The incident involving the kanwaria happened around 12 pm at Nao Ghat near Ram bridge. Sonu was reportedly bathing along with his brother and other family members when he suddenly went missing. His family started to look around for him, but to no avail. Police launched a search operation that lasted nearly five hours, but the man couldn't be traced. Lakshman Jhula police SHO Santosh Singh Kunwar, said, "We called off the search in the evening. It will resume the next morning."
