Haryana home minister Anil Vij seeks ATRs from police within 15 days

AMBALA: Haryana home minister Anil Vij on Saturday gave the state police 15 days to submit action-taken reports on the inquiries he had marked. He passed these orders during a Janata Darbar at the cantonment to redress public grievances.

He wants them to mark five complaints received from the public against the conduct of cops. He sent instructions to the commissioners, inspectors generals of police (IGPs), superintendents, and their deputies. Vij said: “The Kurukshetra SP must explain the delay in dealing with complaints, including those of custodial torture, such as where a complainant was thrown off roof.”

Rewari soldier Satish Kumar appared before Vij in his uniform and claimed that his plot had been occupied illegally. Being on Army duty, he could not pursue the matter and now his unit has also been changed. About the consensual end of farmers’ protest in Karnal, Vij said, “We are ready to investigate but we’ll probe the entire Karnal episode. The farmers have agreed to it.”

He said: “When the central government invited the farmers, they didn’t want to talk, so this issue is not farmer-related but political, and they want to extend it for helping the Congress in the Punjab elections.” The minister accused the Congress of sponsoring the farmers’ agitation, while remaining silent on the Moga lathi-charge. Even Rahul Gandhi didn’t condemn it.”
