KARNAL: A 40-year-old man was shot at by unidentified assailants at Jani village in Haryna's Karnal on Saturday morning.
As per the police, the victim has been identified as Sukhbir, a representative of the former sarpanch of Jani village, who received four bullets.
He was taken to a hospital in Karnal, from where he was referred to Mohali for treatment.
Source said that three to four accused came in a car and fled after the incident.
Soon after getting the information, the police team along with forensic experts reached the crime spot and recovered the empty cartridges.
The actual cause behind the incident could not be ascertained. However, the family members suspected the involvement of a resident, who had an brawl around a year back.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 11am when Sukhbir was reportedly returning home in his car after meeting to family in the village.
Manoj Kumar, Sadar police station said that a case is being registered under 307 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The condition of the victim is stable. Teams have been formed to crack the case. The investigation is on.
He said that it is suspected the assailants used two weapons to commit the crime.
