GURUGRAM: A man suffered 30% burn injuries after he was allegedly set on fire in Jhajjar’s Bahadurgarh on Sunday. He is undergoing treatment in hospital and is out of danger now, police said. An FIR has been filed against five people.
The main accused has been identified as Jhadu, a water supplier in Nuna Majra village. Police said he had a long-standing feud with Suresh alias Pappu, who also lives in the village, which was exacerbated by an argument between the duo on Sunday.
An officer said Jhadu had called Suresh to his office on Sunday and they started having an argument over the loud music that the latter had played a day ago. Jhadu, who had been staying at the office for the past couple of days, started hurling abuses at Suresh.
The argument escalated into a scuffle and he threatened to kill Suresh. Several workers were present in the office at the time. Jhadu allegedly asked one of them to spray alcohol on Suresh. He then set the victim on fire with a matchstick, after which they all fled.
Passersby heard Suresh’s screams of pain. They barged into the office and doused the flames by throwing water at him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, which referred him to PGI Rohtak. Police said Suresh received 30% burn injuries and is out of danger now.
Based on Suresh’s statement, an FIR has been registered against Jhadu and four others at Bahadurgarh Sector 6 police station under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC on Monday.
“A police team visited PGI Rohtak to record the victim’s statement. His health is improving. We have not made any arrests as of now. We are investigating the matter and interrogating the culprits. Arrests will be made soon,” SHO Sunil Kumar said.
