Haryana: Escapee from Rewari's Covid jail carrying reward of Rs 25,000 lands in police net

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police has arrested a criminal, carrying a bounty of Rs 25000 from Rewari district. Police has also recovered a country-made pistol and three live cartridges from his possession.

Identified as Shakti Singh alias Guru, a resident of Mahendergarh district, escaped from special Covid section of Rewari Jail on the intervening night of May 8 and 9.

To nab the accused, the police team was continuously raiding his hideouts in Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat as well. A reward of Rs 25,000 was declared on his head.

Based on a tip off, a trap was laid near Saharanwas cut in Rewari district. Subsequently, Shakti Singh was arrested and a country-made pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from him.

Alongwith others, he was lodged in the section designated for Covid patients in Rewari jail and fled after cutting grilles of barrack. He was sent to Rewari jail after tested positive for Covid-19.
