YAMUNANAGAR: The police have recovered bodies of an elderly woman and her specially-abled son under mysterious circumstances in Nanda Colony area of Yamunanagar on Friday late evening.
The deceased have been identified as Harbans Kaur (90) and her specially-abled son Raju (55), who were found dead at a rented accommodation.
On receiving the information, the police from Farakpur police station in Yamunanagar reached the spot for inspection and took the dead bodies in custody for post-mortem.
The police said they have conducted the proceedings under Section 174 (police to enquire and report on suicide, etc.) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the post-mortems of both the deceased persons on Saturday.
The police said the woman and her son had been living on the roadside and they were provided a rented accommodation in the Nanda Colony area of Yamunanagar by the local residents.
"They were provided food by the people of the locality and a local gurdwara. We have not recovered any suspicious substance from the spot and it appears to be a case of food poisoning or starvation. One person from the locality went to give food to the woman and her son, he saw that they were lying dead. Some blood was coming out from their mouths and the police were called", said Farakpur police station house officer (SHO) inspector Deep Chand.
"We have traced the daughter of the deceased woman identified as Balinder Kaur (about 55) who lives in Railway Colony area in Jagadhri and her husband Darshan Singh works in railway. Balinder hardly visited her mother and it is being investigated why the elderly woman and specially-abled man were left out of home in such a manner", said SHO Deep.
He added that the post-mortems of both the deceased persons were conducted and the investigation is ongoing.
"The exact cause of death would be ascertained on the basis of the post-mortem reports", said SHO Deep.
