Haryana: Couple held with 501 gm heroin by Ambala CIA-II

AMBALA: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-II of Ambala Police arrested a couple after recovering 501 gram of heroin from their possession in the Ambala cantonment area on Wednesday, said superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa.

The SP said that the accused have been identified as Akbar alias Anna and his wife Kachan of Deha Colony, Ambala cantonment, who were produced in the district court on Thursday. The court granted their seven-day remand to CIA-II for further investigation.

The SP said that when the CIA-II team headed by inspector Varinder Walia was present near Football Chowk in Ambala cantonment on Wednesday, it received the tip-off that Akbar and Kachan sell heroin in the area. “It was informed that the suspects would be going towards Football Chowk from the bus stand, Ambala cantonment side, to sell heroin in their Haryana numbered car. Following the tip-off, barricading was done near Football Chowk and checking was started. At about 3.10pm, the suspect vehicle was spotted and checking was conducted in front of a gazetted officer. Upon checking, 501 gm heroin was recovered from the pocket of accused Akbar”, said Ambala SP.

The police also confiscated the car used to smuggle the contraband. Meanwhile, the Ambala police registered a case against Akbar and Kachan under section 21 (punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs and preparations) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Ambala cantonment police station on Wednesday.
