Haryana: CBI arrests two railway officials posted at Ambala DRM office in Rs 1.80 lakh bribery case

AMBALA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a senior divisional signal and telecommunication engineer (IRSSE: 2010 Batch) and a chief office superintendent, both posted in the office of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ambala of the Northern Railway on Wednesday, allegedly for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from a complainant.

A case was registered on complaint against the accused on the allegations of demanding bribe.

The complainant, a contractor of railways in Punjab and Haryana, alleged that he was awarded two contracts through open tender of Rs 92 lakh and Rs 1.15 crore, and after completion of project/contract, he had submitted revised estimates. It was further alleged that chief office superintendent demanded bribe in lieu of approval of revised estimates which was 2% of the gross contract value on behalf of senior divisional signal and telecommunication engineer.

In a press release on Wednesday, CBI said it laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from complainant.

The CBI conducted searches at residential and office premises of both accused in Ambala, which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

Both the arrested accused are being produced today in the competent court at Panchkula.

When contacted, Ambala DRM Gurinder Mohan Singh said, "Departmental action of suspension would be taken as per norms if the accused officials remain in custody for 48 hours. Both did not have any such past record."
