AMBALA: The farmers associated with Bharatiya Kisan Union(BKU-Charuni) carried out a candle march in Ambala City on Sunday evening, to pay tributes to the farmers killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Following the incident in UP, the farmers gathered at Aggarsain Chowk in Ambala City, marched through the streets and staged a demonstration in front of the Municipal Corporation office.
The farmers raised slogans and held placards of "Shaheed kisan amar rahe" (martyr farmer be immortal), "Justice for farmers" and "BJP sarkar murdabad" (down with BJP government).
About 200 farmers participated in the candle march.
A farmer Sukhwinder Singh of Jalbera village said, "We have received information that five farmers have been killed after being crushed and shot with a bullet by a convoy of Ashish Mishra, who is a son of Union minister of state (MoS) for home affairs Ajay Mishra. In protest against the BJP government killing farmers, we have carried out a candle march to offer our tributes to the martyred farmers."
"The incident at Lakhimpur Kheri is highly deplorable and now this BJP government has come down to killing the protesting farmers. Moreover, from today's statement of Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, it is now clear that this government is planning to kill farmers. Following the call of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, we will hold a demonstration outside deputy commissioner office on Monday from 10 am to 1 pm and submit our memorandum of demands", said BKU Charuni Ambala district president Malkiat Singh Sahibpura.
Balwinder Singh Chudiala, Jai Singh Jalbera, his brother Sukhwinder Singh Jalbera, and Baljinder Singh Kaulan led farmers during their candle march.
