KURUKSHETRA: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni decided to mark 2-year anniversary of year-long farmers' protest at grain market, Mohra village in Ambala Cantonment on the National Highway (NH)-44 and later block rail track in protest against "Centre government's renege on promises made to farmers".
This decision was made in BKU Charuni's executive meeting presided over by its national president Gurnam Singh Charuni, held at Jaat Dharamshala in Kurukshetra on Tuesday. This meeting was attended by office-bearers of BKU Charuni from Haryana, and Punjab.
On Monday, Charuni had served a 15-day ultimatum to Centre government and ministry of railways "to withdraw cases registered against farmers during farmers' protest by the railway police and other related to central agencies or face Rail Roko Andolan."
After the meeting, Charuni released a video and said on November 24, we will mark the 2-year anniversary of Kisan Andolan (farmers' protest) and it is also the birth anniversary of Sri Chhotu Ram on that day.
"Government had promised at the completion of the protest to withdraw cases against farmers but all the cases have not been taken back, to discuss MSP (minimum support price), justice in Lakhimpur Kheri case, and waiver of farm loans", said Charuni.
"To discuss all the pending farm issues as promised by the government, a gathering will be held at Mohra grain market on November 24 and later, we will go on to block railway tracks", said Charuni.
About Zila Parishad elections in Haryana, Charuni said, "BKU will support farm union related candidates in Zila Parishad elections. Candidates associated with BJP and JJP will be opposed."
Charuni said a memorial would also be developed in the memory of farmers who died during farmers' protest and called farmers Punjab and Haryana to come with their tractors to attend the November 24 event.
