PANCHKULA: Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta will write a letter to the Haryana chief minister (CM) requesting two police companies having 170 police officials to enhance police presence in the district. Gupta held a meeting with Panchkula police commissioner Dr Hanif Qureshi and DC Mahavir Kaushik with senior police officers.
Qureshi suggested increase in police force deployed in the district on the pattern of Chandigarh police department. He told the speaker that there were 5,775 police officials in the Chandigarh Police Force for a population of around 12 lakh, while Panchkula had 1,075 police officials for 6.2 lakh. The CP said the district needed at least two police companies. One company, he said, has 85 police officials and with two companies, 170 personnel would be added to the police force. Gupta assured that he would write to the CM.
CP Qureshi informed the speaker that Chandigarh Police has 244 four wheelers, 480 two wheelers and 4,138 constables while in Panchkula, there were 72 four- wheelers, 85 motorcycles and 674 constables. The speaker said all requirements would be fulfilled.
