Haryana: Arhtiyas oppose move to cut commission from crops’ MSP

KARNAL : A state-level meeting of the arhtiyas (commission agents) was held in Karnal on Thursday, where they opposed the government decision to deduct in their commission on crop procured on Minimum Support Prices (MSP). The meeting was presided by Ashok Gupta, state president of the association.

Ashok Gupta said: “Arhityas used to get 2. 5% commission on the purchase of MSP, which is around Rs 51 for per quintal of crop, but this year the government has decided to pay only Rs 46 per quintal. ” He said that the government should increase their commission instead of cutting it.

Farmers and arhtiyas are facing inconvenience due to the direct payment system, he claimed. Karnal Arhtiya Association president Rajneesh Chaudhary said that the government should also allow farmers residing in border areas to sell their crops in Haryana. They also threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not meet at earliest. They condemned the incident in which black ink was thrown on farmer leader Rakesh Tikait’s face in Bengaluru.
