Haryana: After heavy rainfall in catchment area, farmers' land erodes in Somb river

YAMUNANAGAR: About three to four acres of agricultural land of farmers of Kanalsi village in Jagadhri block of Yamunanagar district eroded in the Somb river, a tributary of Yamuna river, after heavy rainfall in its catchment area on Tuesday.

The land belonged to Rajesh Kumar, Vijay Pal, Anil Kumar, Kiran Pal, Suresh, and Himanshu, all residents of Kanalsi village, said Kiran Pal, who is associated with Yamuna Sewa Samiti.

The farmers on Tuesday also went to the office of deputy commissioner (DC), Yamunanagar, where they handed over a memorandum demanding inspection of the spot in Kanalsi where the land eroded and demanded to stop water of Somb river from Dadupur head.

The farmers also demanded from DC to construct concrete structures to stop land erosion.

The farmers said that every year they are suffering loss of land, crops and trees due to erosion.

Kiran Pal said that he along with other farmers have lost land and paddy crop due to sudden increase in water flow of Somb river. He said DC Yamunanagar has assured the farmers of getting the site inspected and of reducing water flow of Somb river.
