AMBALA: In response to the spurious liquor manufacturing case that resulted in 18 deaths in Haryana by Saturday, state Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) enforcement, AS Chawla, and Superintendent (Enforcement) Karan Goel visited the illegal factory site in Mullana, Ambala district on Saturday.
During their visit, ADGP Chawla, accompanied by local police officials including DSP Barara and SHO Mullana, gathered information about the ongoing investigation and the methods employed by the accused in manufacturing the spurious liquor. Chawla emphasized addressing the shortcomings in the case to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Chawla stated, "The local police investigation revealed that after the deaths were reported in Yamunanagar, the accused in Ambala attempted to destroy the evidence by burning the liquor and equipment. Several arrests have been made in connection with this case."
Expressing concern, Chawla highlighted the hope that the distribution of the spurious liquor by the accused has been limited, reducing the potential for further casualties. He added that the police are actively working to trace the supply chain through their network.
According to the information provided by the local police, it appears that the accused had recently started manufacturing spurious liquor. Chawla noted that the main accused, with a previous criminal record, was released on bail about a month ago. He emphasized the need for stringent action to deter individuals from repeating such acts.
"This incident has heightened our sensitivity, and I am optimistic that within a week or ten days, a strong message will be sent to individuals with a history of involvement in such cases," said AS Chawla.
Chawla informed that, except for two to three accused, the police have arrested all other individuals, and efforts are underway to apprehend the main accused who is still at large. He pledged strict action against those found involved in the case.
Highlighting recent developments, ADGP AS Chawla mentioned that the enforcement department would soon release a dedicated emergency helpline number, similar to Dial 112, for reporting information related to such matters directly. The aim is to facilitate immediate action upon receiving relevant information."
