Haryana: 3 killed, 15 injured as truck runs over sleeping migrants in Jhajjar

GURUGRAM: At least three labourers were killed and 15 others sustained injuries after a speeding truck ran over them on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway near Asoda toll plaza in Bahadurgarh in Haryana's Jhajjar district on Thursday morning.

According to police, the accident took place at 5.30am when the labourers, after carrying out the repair work till late night, slept on the expressway where barricades were put in place.

"The workers were carrying out the construction work at KMP e-way after which they slept there itself. Our ERV van was on patrolling on Wednesday night and we had asked the labourers to sleep under the bridge as highway could be risky but they didn't listen," said Amit Yashvardhan, additional SP (Badli).

However, as per Yashvardhan, barricades were already placed as the construction work was under way and the deceased were sleeping behind them.

"The truck first rammed into the barricades and then ran over the migrants. Three are dead. Around two-three are in critical condition while others are getting treated. All of them are from Uttar Pradesh," he said.

While five of the injured were getting treated at General hospital in Badhurgarh, 10 were referred to PGI Rohtak.

An FIR will be registered after statements of the families of victims are recorded, the police said. The truck driver was absconding.
