Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reviewing eight cases accusing disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments each brought four investigations to prosecutors.

He said no charges have been filed and he did not know details about the allegations.

Weinstein's publicist said in an email that he has "nothing to add right now".

The disgraced film mogul has denied all wrongdoing in previous allegations and is scheduled to stand trial on rape charges next month in New York City.

It comes after a former model accused disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager.

Kaja Sokola alleges she was an aspiring actress when she arrived in the US from Poland in 2002 and met with Weinstein.

She claimed he offered to take her to lunch but his driver instead drove the pair to Weinstein's apartment, where she says he sexually abused her.

Recently Weinstein also faced a backlash from his alleged sex abuse victims after bragging in an interview that he had championed women in Hollywood.

Weinstein, 67, claims his work has been ignored amid the scandal over abuse allegations by women including actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd.

“I feel like the forgotten man,” he told the New York Post. “I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker... I did it first! I pioneered it!

Weinstein later said he gave the interview to refute claims that he was exaggerating illness after appearing at a New York court with a walking frame.
