Harvey Neville signs first professional contract at Manchester United

There's another Neville coming through the ranks at Manchester United, 26 years after his father and uncle made the same steps as Harvey Neville confirmed he has signed professional terms at the club.

Harvey, 18, is the son of former United defender Phil, who signed his first contract in 1994. His uncle Gary, was part of the 'Class of '92' group of players who defined one of the most successful periods at the club.

Now, Harvey is making his own name at United, having started at the club as a child before short-lived spells at Manchester City and Valencia. He returned to United in 2018, and has impressed at under-18 level in the academy.

Like his father and uncle, Neville is a right-back, but has been involved in the Republic of Ireland youth set-up, rather than England.

Taking to Instagram to announce his deal, Neville wrote: "Proud to have signed my first professional contract with@manchesterunited. Thank you to all my family and coaches for their support."

England Women's manager Phil replied to the post with red, white and black emojis, and a love heart.

Harvey will now get the chance to impress United academy coaches next season, and hope to step up to the U23 side. United made the decision not to release any under-18 players this season due to the uncertainty in the transfer market caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
