Harvey Elliott withdrawn from England squad as Liverpool dealt another injury blow

Liverpool have been dealt another injury blow after Harvey Elliott was forced to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad.

The 18-year-old was with the Young Lions group for their European Championship qualifier against Kosovo on Tuesday.

However, Liverpool have confirmed that Elliott has been withdrawn from the squad as a result of an unspecified injury, and as a result has returned to Merseyside.

In further detail provided on the FA’s website, Elliott reported for training carrying an injury he picked up in the Premier League match against Chelsea last month.

The decision was taken, following further assessment, to have Elliott withdraw from the squad and return to Liverpool, and he is made to wait for his England Under-21 debut.

England Under-21s first match against Romania last Friday was postponed following two positive Covid-19 tests were reported within the party of players and support staff.

Elliott becomes the second Liverpool player to get injured while on duty for their country, following Takumi Minamino who suffered a knock while with Japan.

Jurgen Klopp has placed his faith in Elliott this term, with the teenager starting the past two Premier League fixtures.

He started in midfield in the Anfield clashes against Burnley and Chelsea, and certainly impressed onlookers.

Fellow Liverpool team-mate Curtis Jones is unavailable for selection for England’s game against Kosovo through suspension.
